 Dr. O'Brien completed a five-year General Surgery Residency at the State University of New York at Buffalo. During his Chief Residency, this Tampa plastic surgeon was awarded the prestigious "Resident Teacher of the Year Award". His plastic surgery training was completed at St. Joseph Hospital and the Texas Medical Center in Houston, Texas. While there, Dr. O’Brien worked directly with some of the true pioneers in plastic and reconstructive surgery, learning cutting-edge techniques.
In line with his goal to be the board certified plastic surgeon St. Petersburg and Tampa Bay can depend on for exceptional care, Dr. O'Brien entered private practice in St. Petersburg, Florida in 1994. As a highly-regarded expert in plastic and cosmetic surgery, he has lectured at both state and national meetings regarding various aspects of plastic surgery. Dr. O’Brien has written articles and book chapters for various medical publications and has provided expert consult to a number of companies in the plastic surgery and med-spa arena. Dr. O’Brien has held leadership roles in both state and national societies, including the President of the Tampa Bay Society of Plastic Surgery and the Florida Society of Plastic Surgery, has been on the Board of Governors and continues to advocate for patient safety issues in plastic surgery with t he Florida Board of Medicine.
