Facelift

Procedure: 5 hours
Recovery: 7-10 days

As you age, your face changes. What were once youthful features begin to lose definition. A facelift can restore your youthful appearance to look like a naturally younger version of yourself.

What is a facelift?

A facelift may help re-position sagging tissues, smooth creases, define a jawline or neck that has been hidden by sagging jowls and smooth sagging neck skin. Nothing looks pulled, tight or unnatural. Rather, you look like a younger, restored, beautiful version of yourself.

In a  facelift, Dr. O’Brien corrects tissues and tightens muscles underneath the skin and potentially removes extra fat. The skin is then smoothed back over the face, resulting in a fresher appearance.

A facelift can reduce signs of aging to a great extent, but it cannot reverse sun damage to the skin or remove all facial wrinkles around the eyes, below the nose, and around the lips.

Although a facelift can make your face appear younger and healthier, your face will continue to age. If you are experiencing anxiety over aging, a facelift may increase self-confidence and reduce anxiety over growing older.

Am I a good candidate for a facelift?

As with other cosmetic procedures, you are more likely to be happy with the results of your facelift if you have clear, realistic expectations about what the surgery can achieve and if you share these with Dr. O’Brien in his St. Petersburg office.

How long is recovery from a facelift?

Facelift surgery usually takes several hours. You will able to go home that day, but sometimes patients spend one night in our accredited overnight suite to ensure a good start to the healing process.

Your face will be bandaged after surgery, and the dressings are usually removed within one or two days. If a drainage tube has been placed, it will also be removed one or two days following your surgery. Stitches will be removed in five to ten days. You will be prescribed medications for discomfort.

Expect to have facial swelling and bruising. Cold compresses can help, as well keeping your head elevated.

Most people can return to their normal activities two to three weeks after a facelift. At first your face and neck may feel tight. This is normal.
